Today, I’m excited to share my authentic Michelada recipe with you!
What is a michelada?
If you’re not familiar with this savory beer cocktail, it’s a delightful Mexican lager-based drink infused with tomato juice, lime juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and a touch of Jugo Maggi. Unlike a thick Bloody Mary, our Michelada stays light and refreshing, making it the perfect beverage for relaxing after a long day or enjoying a laid-back weekend. So, let’s dive into the ingredients and steps to create this fantastic concoction!
Inspiration for my Michelada & Michelada Mix Recipe
When I was developing this recipe, I wanted to make sure I kept the Michelada nice and light, I didn’t want it to feel like I was drinking a thick Bloody Mary. My recipe is similar to the Micheladas you’ll find in Cancun, or as they call them, Ojo Rojo, where it uses Clamato, lime juice, a mild hot sauce (I used Valentina), Worcestershire sauce, and Jugo Maggi.
The result is a delicious red beer, where everything is nicely balanced and you can taste every single ingredient in it. This recipe makes 2 1/2 cups of the Michelada mix, so you can store the mix in your fridge and reach for it after a long day at work, or on the weekend when you’re at home relaxing. Feel free to make it your own and add cooked shrimp or fresh mango/watermelon slices as a garnish!
Tips to keep in mind when making Micheladas
- Creating the Michelada Mix
- In a large measuring cup, combine the Clamato juice (or tomato juice), lime juice, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and Maggi Jugo seasoning sauce. Mix thoroughly to ensure all flavors blend harmoniously.
- Assembling the Michelada
- Begin by rimming your glasses with Tajin: Pour the Tajin onto a small plate, rub a lime wedge around the rim of each glass, and dip the glasses into the Tajin to coat the rim.
- Next, add 1 cup of ice into each beer mug. Pour in 1/2 cup of the Michelada mix into each mug (if using a smaller glass, use 1/4 cup instead).
- Top off each mug with Mexican Lager of your choice (Corona or Modelo recommended). Give the Michelada a gentle stir to mix the flavors.
- For an extra touch, garnish each glass with a lime round.
- Customize and Enjoy!
- The beauty of the Michelada lies in its versatility. Feel free to customize your drink by adding cooked shrimp or fresh mango or watermelon slices as garnish.
- Now, sit back, relax, and savor the delightful flavors of this refreshing Michelada. Don’t forget to snap some pictures and share them with us on Instagram! We’d love to see your creations and hear how much you enjoyed the recipe.
- Pro tip: You can find Jugo Maggi in the condiment section or the Hispanic/Asian/International Food Section at your local grocery store. Alternatively, it’s available for purchase on Amazon. Jugo Maggi resembles a reduced soy sauce without all the sodium, adding a unique depth of flavor to the Michelada.
If you happen to make these Micheladas, don’t forget to take pictures and share them with me on Instagram, and let me know if you enjoyed the recipe! I’ll be back tomorrow to share a taco recipe so until then, nos vemos pronto!
PS. You can find Jugo Maggi in the condiment section (or Hispanic/Asian/International Food Section) at the grocery store, or you can purchase it on Amazon here. (It’s kind of like a reduced soy sauce without all the sodium)
