Hola Hola!
How are you today?
I am so excited to be sharing one of my favorite tailgate recipes for Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs inspired by Sonoran Hot Dogs! As we’re moving into Fall, and temperatures are starting to fall, I wanted to hold on to a bit of Summer, and these hot dogs are the perfect sendoff, and way to enjoy the upcoming football games!
Last Summer I moved back to my old college town and Football season brings back so many fun memories. When I was in college, I was actually part of the school’s marching band, so Football season takes me back to spending the hot summer learning new music, practices, and getting to spend time with my friends. Game days were always my favorite because it meant we got to put on a show for a stadium filled with people. I still remember how electrifying it was to step onto the field for the very first time with hundreds of people cheering on. After our performances we’d often get pizza and hang out, or we’d just get bacon wrapped hot dogs and eat in the stands.
Today I’m partnering with Weber, who gives people all over the world a chance to discover what’s possible on a grill! The grill I’m using today is their Weber Genesis II model, which comes with three burners that have a tapered shape that delivers consistent gas flow from front to back to make sure food cooks evenly anywhere on the grill. The Weber Genesis II also comes with a side burner that allows you to sauté veggies or simmer BBQ sauces and has stainless steel flavorizer bars that are angled in a way that catches drippings, and infuses the smoke into the meat for even more flavor. For more information on the Weber Genesis, click here.
These hot dogs are inspired by Sonora-style hot dogs, they are hot dogs that are wrapped in bacon, served on a big bun that resembles a Mexican bolillo, and topped with sauteed onions and jalapenos and topped with pico de gallo making them the perfect snack to tailgate from home this year! Nos vemos pronto!
Bacon Wrapped Hot Dogs
Makes 8
For the Hot Dogs:
8 Bacon Slices
8 Beef Hot Dogs
1 Onion, sliced into half moons
3 Jalapenos, stemmed and seeded and julienned
8 Potato Hot Dog Buns
Garnish:
Diced tomato
Diced White Onion
Mayo
Ketchup
Mustard
Instructions
Start by pre-heating your grill to medium.
Wrap the bacon around each hotdog, securing each end with a toothpick. Once the grill is hot enough, place the hotdogs on the grill and cook for about 2 minutes on each side, until the bacon is fully cooked through, about 10 minutes. Transfer them to a plate as they finish.
After the hot dogs cook, use a same skillet to heat up a tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add in the onion and jalapeno. Stir occasionally and cook for about 6-7 minutes, or until the onions have caramelized a little bit
To assemble: Schmear mayo on both sides of the hot dog bun, then add a hot dog and top with the onion jalapeño mixture and the condiments of your choice.

March 2, 2017 at 2:26 pmI laughed out loud at the broke college student budget where Costco rotisserie chickens become a staple! I am so glad to know I wasn’t alone there. Tacos, salads, sandwiches… you name it! I put those things in everything!!! And by everything, I mean everything that was fast, easy, and affordable;) College kid budget, ya know. Man, those were the days. This mole vinaigrette looks awesome (w/ or w/out the Costco rotisserie chicken). I love mole!
